There seems to be a lot of talk on tumblr aimed specifically at marriage equality and similar topics that are currently BIG issues in the US right now (issues in the sense that they are current events, rather than being problems which by no stretch of the imagination would it ever be a problem) and with a lot of this talk comes a very broadly accepted state of mind. People seem to think it’s actually impossible to not support marriage equality; like to not accept it is literally a step away from being clinically retarded (pardon my french). Now, while I myself support marriage equality (like a motherfucker, mind you), I feel something should be said about this mentality.
Before you feel that those who do not support marriage equality are inherently evil or something, keep in mind that not everyone in the world was raised in an open minded environment. Some people were raised ion more “traditional” values and, as such, would very much think the same of you. In fact, isn’t that what this whole battle is about? Spreading the idea of equal marriage rights while also raising awareness of different lifestyles contrary to what would be considered “standard” in American society?
There wasn’t really much of a point to this, just food for thought I guess.
